SOUTH CALGARY COLTS 2012 SPRING CAMPS

Who: Bantam (ages 13-15)   Peewee (ages 11-12)  Atoms (ages 7-10)

Must live in the communities of Cranston, Chaparral, Midnapore, Lake Sundance, Parkland, Deer Run, Lake Bonavista, Queensland, Diamond Cove, Maple Ridge, Willow Park, Bonavista Downs, Deer Ridge, Walden

When: May 29th– May 31st 6:30pm – 8:00pm and June 5th – June 7th 6:30pm – 8:00pm

Where: South Fish Creek Recreation Center

Registration tables will be located at the back of the facility outside the new Colts dressing rooms

No parking available at back of building. Please use public parking lots on South end or Bishop O’Byrne HS parking lot on West end.

WHAT TO BRING:

PARENTS: If you did not pre-register: Copy of birth certificate, Alberta Health Card. Spring camp fee $50

PLAYERS: Plenty of water and cleats

The Calgary Colts Football Club and King Football are joining forces to offer a  skills based Football Camp for ages 11 to 14.

2012 Pee Wee Bantam Colts Camp Flyer

The KING Football Future’s Camp focuses on age specific skill development for each athlete.  Improving football specific skills as well as general movement patterns will enhance each players ability to compete with his peers and maximize his present and future athletic potential.

This camp will be run without any pads required.

When: Saturday May 12, 10am – 2pm

Where: South Fish Creek Recreation Center

Registration tables will be located at the back (south side) of the facility outside the Colts’ new  dressing rooms (weather permitting, inside the dressing room if inclement).

No parking available at back of building. Please use public parking lots on South end or Bishop O’Byrne HS parking lot on West end.

What to bring: Copy of birth certificate, Alberta Health Care Card.

Cost: Bantam – $50.00  Peewee – $50.00  Atom – $50.00

COLTS OPEN NEW PRACTICE FACILITY

April 25th, 2012

The South Calgary Colts Football Association is proud to announce the opening of their new practice facility at the South Fish Creek Recreation Center. After five long years of planning, fundraising and hard work, the dressing room is functional and the storage facilities are being utilized by the 2012 Midgets Colts.  “Many people have worked very hard to make this a reality” said Colts Association President Terry Swanney.  “Everyone involved is very proud of this accomplishment” Envisioned over five years ago when the SFCRA expansion was in its infancy, the Colts jumped at the chance to become involved and gain a toe-hold into the facility.

Working closely with the planning and construction committees the Colts were able to secure valuable space at the back of the facility for their new dressing room which “coincidently” backs right out onto the two football fields at the back.  “We’re ecstatic” adds Mr Swanney, “this opens up many options for us as an organization. The Colts Association has worked very hard, Tony Israel and Mike Mikkelson have been crucial to the success of this initiative.  Their diligence has paid off by having this facility ready to go live now”.

The long-term lease of the facility includes not only the 88 stall dressing room, long-term and short-term storage, office space, and trainer’s room but also access to meeting rooms and film-room capacity.

“The SFCRA has become a major hub of activity in the South East and now the Colts are right in the middle of it” concludes Mr Swanney. “We have secured the permits for both fields so we have ample practice fields for bantams, peewees and atoms all at the same time”.  Parents of kids on multi-level teams can come and have their kids all pretty much on the same field and if they find practices tedious or if the infamous Calgary weather becomes an issue, they have the SFCRA facilities at their doorstep including, library, concession stands, pool, and gyms.

The bantams, peewees and atoms are all scheduled to move to the new facility for the 2012 season beginning with spring camps in May/June and main training camps in August.

The long-term plan is for the addition of lights and finally a synthetic turf field for the facility and those plans are well underway by the SCCFA.

Stay tuned, in Colts world, a lot of great things are happening.

 

The Athlete Factory —Information From Orientation Night

Highlights from the orientation night:
  • Individualized programs that are supervised by “Lead Coaches”who know your son well and his training needs.
  • Emphasis on perfecting “movement patterns” (running, lifting,jumping, etc.) that can help to accelerate an athlete’s performance.
  • The activities are based upon sound warm-up, base activities andcool-down principles that are age appropriate.
  • Sound research (literature) available to review and a chance forfootball coaches and parents to consult with Lead Coaches about your son’s progress on an ongoing basis.
  • Not necessarily football-specific exercises but all related to the “athlete” in general that address strength, flexibility, stamina, explosive power; etc.  We will do football-specificdrills at our weekend (community) practices and organized mini-camps in late May/early June that lead into August training camp.
  • Reasonable cost for most families.  If funding is a concern for any family, Kidsport can be tapped into for assistance and I will help with these forms.
  • FLEXIBILITY IN SCHEDULING! This is a persuasive component as, if you can not attend a scheduled session, you can make it up on a different night simply by calling Laura.  Multiple entry and exit points by athletes going in-and-out of season, in and out-of town, or just getting started…they will cater to where you are individually (new and experienced with their program).
  • Parents who attended the meeting were impressed with the information given, the organization, the integrity of the individuals who run the operation and the evidence offered by a gym full of in-session athletes from myriad sports all working-out to improve their performance.
Making a commitment
Getting some momentum going:
  • Eight Colts athletes are now committed and registered from Atom (1), Pee Wee (4) and Bantam (3) to begin this week:  Two technical sessions (4-5 athletes working with a Lead Coach)—starting this Wednesday, April 18 @ 7pm-8:30pm and on Saturdays @ 9am beginning April 21.  This session will be followed by a Group Session (15-20 athletes) on Saturdays @ 10am (for one hour) in which all Colts athletes will train together to get fit, get strong and build
    explosive power.
  • Cost is $195.46 including GST for one month (8-9 sessions).  We will commit until mid-June and determine who is still available going into the summer holidays.  Given the busy August-October schedule we can start again in November.

South Calgary Atom, PeeWee and Bantam Colts Attend the IRONWILL Football Skills Camp in Red Deer

Declan, Liam, Tristan, Michael, Jaden, Trent, Kevin, and Max all attend the IRONWILL Bantam and Under Football Skills camp. Each day included 5.5 hours of instruction and was excellent in its design, breaking down running technique, stretching, strength, throwing, pass routes and catching to their most basis forms and building upon each.

South Calgary Colt Bantams Attend Dave Dickenson’s Passing Academy

Liam H., Johnny H., and Declan O.  attended Dave Dickenson’s Passing Academy for the past 5 weeks.  Great experience to learn from some of  CFL’s QB and Receivers coaches and players.

“The Dickenson Passing Academy’s focus is to increase an athletes skill on the football field,” said Dickenson. “But I also want them to respect the game and strive to be both good teammates and good people.”

The session’s focus on a balance of theory and practical based work with participants reviewing film, learning in the classroom setting and then receiving coaching in the gym.

In addition to Dickenson, the academy also features special visits by Stamps players and coaches.

We will once again be booking a bus and anticipate that it will be full (players, coaches and trainers) thus I ask that parents consider car-pooling.  The bus will leave the Deer Run Community Centre @ 10am as roads are expected to be icy.

Our hosts will be providing sideline (propane) heaters but I also ask that players have appropriate clothing, especially socks, so that the cold does not play a factor in both the physical and mental sides of the game.  An “adult” winter jacket fits nicely over shoulder pads and large mittens help keep fingers warm when on the  sideline.
