DEADLINE TO APPLY FEB 15th for Student Coaching Program run by the South Calgary Colts Football Association

January 11th, 2012

As we move into the New Year the planning for the 2012 season has already begun.  I am writing in regards
to the Student Coaching Program run by the South Calgary Colts Football Association.  The program is meant to allow some of the best young players that have come through our organization to give back to their club by volunteering some of their time to coaching in the Colt’s program.

Under the terms of the program, we will pay for the courses necessary for achievement of the NCCP (National Coaches Certification Program) Level 1 coaching certificate.

This consists of three parts as outlined below:

1)  Level 1 Theory - theories of youthcoaching on a broad basis meant for youth coaches in any sport.  Consists of 2 days (Sat/Sun) and is widely available through the NCCP (it’s offered here at the Talisman Center).

2)  Level 1 Technical – 1-1/2 day Football specific seminar sponsored by Football Alberta and held once annually at UofC (usually in March).

3) Level 1 Practical – One full season of coaching after completion of the Theory and Technical components.

In return, we seek a commitment of 2 seasons from the youth-coach, in which they will receive guidance and mentoring in the coaching process from the existing staff.  The South Calgary Colts Board of Directors, in conjunction with the respective head coaches, will assign the youth-coach to the team where he is required taking into consideration such requisites as availability and convenience of travel.

As a student-athlete (and an emerging young man) we understand the time constraints involved in balancing academic, athletic and work commitments.  With that in mind we ask that the prospective youth-coach “commit” to attending all practices in August for training camp and once school starts in September, we ask they attend only when the commitment doesn’t interfere with their scholastic and athletic (football) endeavours at school.  We also ask he attend the games on Saturdays.

Should you be interested in applying to this program, please submit your information in confidence, to the SCCFA Youth Coach Program at terryswanney@hotmail.com.  Once all applications have been considered the successful candidates will be notified early in the New Year (2012).

Sincerely,

Terry Swanney

President,

South Calgary PeeWee Colts head to Innisfail for the Provincial Finals

November 14th, 2011

COLTS vs. Innisfail Cyclones

November 19 @ 1:00

Innisfail High School

We will once again be booking a bus and anticipate that it will be full (players, coaches and trainers) thus I ask that parents consider car-pooling.  The bus will leave the Deer Run Community Centre @ 10am as roads are expected to be icy.

Our hosts will be providing sideline (propane) heaters but I also ask that players have appropriate clothing, especially socks, so that the cold does not play a factor in both the physical and mental sides of the game.  An “adult” winter jacket fits nicely over shoulder pads and large mittens help keep fingers warm when on the  sideline.
